My wife and I did this with my two boys. Personally, I wasn't sure about it at first, even though I knew about the environmental advantages. I wasn't sure how sanitary it was. A friend gave me some to try out, and my wife and I ended up loving them. So, we bought more.

Both of my boys are now out of diapers, but I have a couple of friends that have had children since. They all have tried and also loved the cloth, reusuable diapers.

Absolutely a good choice for new parents.

Excellent! I've never gotten a new diaper either. All of our son's diapers were bought second hand, and cost was a big factor for us too.

Choosing to cloth diaper with our first baby was mostly a financial decision because we were given a bunch of fuzzi bunz. Free diapers = easy decision. I have an older washer, wash a full load of diapers about every 4 days and machine dry. As you wrote, not the most environmental way of doing it. I do plan to use the diapers on another baby, though. Actually, the parents who gave us the diapers used them on two babies, so that's four kiddos on one set of diapers!

What kind of cloth do you use? Tom was definitely less pleased when we used prefolds/snappis/covers than he is now with our simple Fuzzi Bunz. It's a matter of personal preference though - we know a couple that use prefolds with wool for their kids up until potty training, and the husband never had a problem with it. He's one of a kind though!

Cloth diaper bums do look way to cute! Some people do not understand the benefits of using cloth diapers and others just do not want to deal with the hassle.

I use cloth myself but when hubby is in charge he likes to use Huggies Pure & natural diapers. He just can not seem to get cloth diapers down pat. (even after 5 kids)

That's awesome Mummatutu! I was so happy that the hubby agreed that there is definite value in CD'ing. It's also been amusing to teach my mom and sisters about CD'ing. We don't give anyone a choice - if you are around our son long enough to change a diaper, you'll get Cloth Diapers 101 ;)
