Swimming; Tones Your Body & Helps Lose Weight
July 21, 2010 | Filled Under Health
A few months before the summer begins many of us head to our nearest gym to try and get trimmed for the summer. There are several exercises we use to lose weight and to gain body tone, but which ones are the most effective?
One exercise which is certainly effective is swimming and I am pretty sure every will agree and give me a thumbs on this. Swimming is not only a great exercise, but its a eco-friendly and body-friendly workout that creates no waste!
Swimming is certainly one exercise that can help you to tone your body and lose weight at the same time and many people underestimate how powerful this exercise can be. Swimming is a whole body exercise; every bit of your body is working hard to get you moving forward from your feet to your arms and shoulders. Swimming can consume more calories than any other exercises if it is done in the right way and even if you don’t know how to swim, walking in the water can help you to burn off those all important calories. Doing this not only helps you to lose overall body weight but increases the health of the heart and lungs.
When working out on solid surfaces the heavy body weight can cause certain parts of the body to sustain the enormous gravity load which in turn of course damages the body whereas swimming will not provide you with the same pain. Resistance of movement in the water is 12 times greater when you compare it to land; which is why swimming is such a tough exercise to regularly do and even tougher to take part in professionally.
There are some excellent exercising tips in the video below for your different body parts:
Swimming is more than just a workout for men and women around the world. Many have swimming as one of their hobbies which of course contributes to weight loss. Swimming is great because it doesn’t matter how old you are, you can do it and lose weight from it.
People who are coming back from an injury can use swimming as a water therapy which can help them recover in the near in no time at all. Water therapy can be enjoyed in a group with others, swimming can be a very social event.

If I were dropped out of a plane into the ocean and told the nearest land was a thousand miles away, I’d still swim. And I’d despise the one who gave up.
