Eco-Friendly Electrical Outlet Makes Saving Energy Simple

November 8, 2009 | Filled Under Energy

In an effort to save energy many of us are unplugging anything that requires electricity when it is not in use. If you’re not unplugging appliances and gadgets when you are not using them, you are wasting energy and resources. If you do not already know, even though an appliance or gadget may not be in use or even on, if it is plugged into an electrical outlet it is sucking energy and wasting your hard earned green (money)!

eco-friendly-outletWhile I understand that constantly unplugging things can be a bit much to keep up with, I do see the electricity savings. Really, if you know it is wasting electricity, why do it? Unless your a millionaire who cares less about your electricity bills or the environment.

For those of us that do keep appliances and gadgets unplugged when we are not using them, I found a very neat eco-friendly electrical outlet concept today when checking out Yanko. The Power Socket SWITCH is a totally cool green gadget that allows you to keep everything plugged in, but with a simple rotation, it cuts off all power, so you aren’t wasting electricity. How easy is that for saving energy?

All of those electrical cords plugged in behind your computer could all be plugged into one power strip and the power strip into the eco outlet. When your done with the computer for the day or evening, simply switch the outlet into the off position and your on the way to being energy efficient.

Now, this is just a concept, so it is not an actual product on the market, but I can see a huge demand for a product like this, especially among people looking to be more eco-friendly. With public endorsements, energy saving products like the Power Socket SWITCH will come to life!

In australia and new zealand every outlet in every house and building have a turn on and off button. I dont understand why in America its so hard to find outlets that do this.

Oh I wish I could lay claim to doing this. My house runs at all different times with people coming and going. How can we improve our usage without disrupting the flow of the home!

I love this idea and would buy such products without a thought. I do agree that unplugging everything can get tiresome and complicated in some instances. Also, there are a lot of hard to reach areas too. I like this concept and hope they come up with more innovative ways to save energy, money, and Mother Nature. Thanks for sharing.

It would be nice if they just started making products that stopped sucking the juice! :)
