Bed Bug Mattress Cover {Review & Giveaway} CLOSED

I can still remember being a small child and my mom tucking me into bed saying “sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite”. I never paid it any mind until I was an adult with kids myself and saw an article about bed bugs. To my disbelief, bed bugs are real and present in many mattresses. The thought of a parasitic insect crawling on my body (or my kids) while sleeping really gives me goosebumps, so I never thought about it. I figured if I had an issue I would know and would deal with it then.

{Quick Bed Bug Facts}

Bedbugs are bloodsucking insects  that are attracted to warmth, certain chemicals and carbon dioxide. When hungry bed bugs, pierces the skin of its host with two hollow feeding tubes. One tube it injects its saliva (contains anticoagulants and anesthetics) while the other it withdraws the blood of the host. Some people suffer from dermatological reactions, itching, red bumps, and irritated and inflamed, although individuals can differ in their sensitivity.

Just how many bed bugs can be present? Infestations can range from a few bugs up to thousands. Signs of bedbugs often appear before bugs are seen. These include fecal spots, crushed bedbugs , blood smears on sheets, moults, itchy welts from their bites (in those that react), etc.

That is enough to make anyone cringe when thinking about crawling into bed!

Getting rid of bed bugs is generally obtained by using insecticides. Yet again another scary thought for me. If I do not use them outside of my home why would I use them on the area my family sleeps on at night?

Designed to stop spreading of bed bugs by trapping them. When the mattress cover is in place, bed bugs and hatchlings are subjected to starvation and prevented from escaping and spreading any further.

ShopBedding sent me a king size Premium Bed Bug Proof Mattress Cover, to test out. My mattress cover was shipped quickly and

arrived packaged well. I was a little bit scared the cover would not to very comfortable or make a lot of noise when you moved around on it, since many waterproof mattress covers have the plastic feel. But, it did not; the top was soft and not stiff at all.

Getting it put on the bed took a little bit of time, since it fits on the entire mattress and zips shut. You do have to be able to move the mattress around to get it put onto the bed. My bed is a King size and I was sent a King size cover, but it was a bit big for my bed. I have plenty of loose fabric, I just tucked it under to hide.  My sheets fit right over it with no issues. The mattress cover is not bulky or thick, so regular sheets cover it just fine.

Since I was doing a review I wanted to know how well the cover would hold up in the washing machine. I have washed it two times, both on cold water cycles and dried it both times. It does not appear to have shrunk at all and it fit right back on my bed with ease.

How Was My Experience With The Mattress Cover?

• Once the sheets are on the bed, you can’t really tell it is even there.
• The size I received was a bit big for my mattress, but that could be from my mattress not being new and settling.
• It  has held up to washing, being put into the dryer and kids jumping on it.
• The price of the mattress cover is worth it, to ensure your sleeping area is buggy free.

What I Would Like To See Improved?

• Honestly the only thing I would like to see is it made available in some colors! Maybe a black, cream, blue or a few common colors. While I like white, it does stain easier than darker colors and you can see everything on it.
